The Navarra Quartet has built an international reputation as one of the most dynamic and poetic string quartets of today
Winners of countless, notable competitions and awards, this is their first performance in Drogheda which is presented in association with the National String Quartet Foundation.
Performing a programme themed around Love & Death, the first half of the programme is a collection of short works by Kurtág, Turina and Puccini plus Janáček’s famous quartet “Kreutzer Sonata” based on Tolstoy‘s novella. The programme ends with one of the pillars of the chamber music repertoire, Schubert’s Death and the Maiden. Some interpret it as Schubert’s testament to death, and find that the theme of death is palpable in all four movements. It is a breathtaking work and incredible work to experience live.
