St.
Peter's is a resource for the whole community. It is part of
the social and cultural fabric of Drogheda life. The present
congregation are but brief custodians of an historic building
on an ancient site.
St. Peter's has been made more accessible to
the people of Drogheda and its visitors. Now that Snetzler's
unique organ has been restored the best performers will want
to play it. Appropriate space has been provided in the church
for recitals and concerts.
The church, which holds 500 people, will be
complemented by suitable reception facilities and practice rooms.
Judy Woodworth, Director of the National Concert Hall, says
"this is one of the most exciting projects I have come
across, one which will substantially enhance Drogheda's place
in the Arts."
The bells, another of the well-known features
of St. Peter's, will continue to ring out over the town. They
have always attracted the best bellringers in Ireland and beyond,
and will continue to do so.
St. Peter's has been a centre of Christian
worship at least since the twelfth century. To secure the future
of this site and building of national importance:
